Internet advertising

Internet advertising…

Below is a comparison of two different forms of advertising, one is conventional advertising in the local tabloids and the other is advertising online.

Mr Jones owns a plumbing business and uses the local newspapers to advertise his services, he advertises his services weekly and pays £100 per week for his space in the small ads column. Here is a yearly forecast of what Mr Jones spends on advertising each year.

52 weeks at £100 per week which gives Mr Jones a total advertising bill of £5200. Although this type of advertising quite affective it is all so  expensive. Mr Jones has to earn £5200 just to cover his advertising bill.

Now if you compare this to advertising online you will see a different picture

If Mr Jones was to invest in a website for £99.00 and pay for a little search engine optimisation work to get his site on the first page of Google for the search terms related to his business, at say £200 per month for 3 months he would spend about £700 over a three month period.

Ok we now have to look at this in the bigger picture, Mr Jones has now spent £700 on his Internet advertising campaign but what you need to keep in mind is that the £700 is not a recurring fee it is a one off payment not like the £5200 he has spent on conventional advertising so he has saved £4500 in his first year.

Now if you look at this over a five year period the cost of conventional advertising comes to a staggering £35,000.

Now both these forms of advertising work well but it is obvious which one is more cost effective in the long run. Some businesses rely solely on conventional advertising and some companies use only the Internet to advertise their products or services.

A lot of our clients have used Internet advertising to reduce their conventional advertising bills and in some case have moved solely to using the Internet as their main form of advertising.
